Photography Gallery

These hand-painted (colored) photographs were taken along the Blue Ridge Parkway near Asheville, NC. I format them to create long, thin horizontal or even vertical artwork. This creates the sense of “windows” looking out on nature, bringing the out-of-doors inside. I titled this series The Alphabet Of Winter Trees, inspired by William Carlos Williams poetic line — the alphabet of the trees.

Hand-painted photography is a fascinating medium for enhancing black and white or desaturated photos. My approach to this very old art process is to enhance what is already there, and to follow subtle leads within the forest’s secrets. I never want my brushwork to impose, but only to allow a more expansive vision.
